Designing and Investigating the Psychometric Properties of the Learning Motivation Scale in Gifted School Students

Abstract

Objective: Enthusiasm and a strong interest in learning lead to academic progress and a greater awareness of society, thereby promoting social and cultural development. The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate the psychometric properties of a learning motivation scale specifically for gifted school students.
Methods: This research employed a descriptive method with a focus on factor analysis. The statistical population consisted of all female students in the second year of secondary school at the gifted school in Khorram Abad city, selected using a census method, resulting in a sample size of 128 participants. The measures used in this study included the Love of Learning Scale (LMS-39) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS-5).
Results: Following exploratory factor analysis, 11 items were removed from the questionnaire due to inadequate factor loadings. The final questionnaire consisted of 28 items. The psychometric properties of the scale were found to be satisfactory and consistent, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.87.
Conclusion: Thus, this scale can be effectively used for research and educational purposes within the Iranian student population, particularly in gifted schools
