Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of educational board games and therapeutic sand play on improving executive functions in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Methods: This study was conducted experimentally with a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design. The research sample included 60 children with ADHD aged 7 to 9 years who were selected from elementary schools in Baharestan County using cluster sampling and were assigned to three groups: educational board games, therapeutic sand play, and control group. The research tools included the SNAP questionnaire and the IVA2 and Stroop tests.

Results: The results showed that both intervention methods had a significant effect on improving attention, response control, and reducing score and time interference in children. Also, a significant difference was observed between the two intervention groups and the control group, but there was no significant difference between the two intervention groups (p<0.05).

Conclusion: These findings showed that educational board games and therapeutic sand play can be used as effective and complementary methods in improving the executive functions of children with ADHD.
