Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on cognitive flexibility and cognitive impairment in students with specific learning disorders.
Methods: This study employed an experimental design with a pre-test/post-test control group structure. The statistical population consisted of 120 primary school students with specific learning disorders who were admitted to the Learning Disorders Center of Khalkhal city in 1402. From this population, 30 students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group (15 students) and a control group (15 students). The diagnosis of learning disorder was based on the psychiatrist’s opinion and a clinical interview conducted by a psychologist. Participants completed the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire by Broadbent et al. (1982) and the Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire by Dennis and Vander Wal (2010). The data were analyzed using the univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
Results: The results showed that computerized cognitive rehabilitation was effective in increasing cognitive flexibility and reducing cognitive impairment in students with specific learning disorders. The findings confirmed the significant effect of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on both increasing cognitive flexibility and reducing cognitive impairment.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that cognitive rehabilitation may have positive effects on improving cognitive flexibility and reducing cognitive impairment in students with specific learning disorders.
