[English]

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of rumination and negative affect in the relationship between childhood and adolescent trauma and the manifestation of dissociative symptoms in adolescents.
Methods: This research employed a descriptive correlational design. The study population comprised male and female students from the first and second years of secondary school in Iran. A sample of 360 students was selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. Participants completed the Rumination Questionnaire, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), and the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES-II). Data analysis was conducted using path analysis with SPSS version 25 and AMOS version 24 software.
Results: The findings indicated that the coefficients associated with the indirect effect of childhood and adolescent trauma on dissociative symptoms, mediated by rumination and negative affect, were statistically significant (p < .05).
Conclusion: The study’s findings offer valuable insights for developing targeted interventions aimed at reducing dissociative symptoms. These interventions could focus on mitigating rumination and negative affect among adolescents who have experienced childhood trauma.
