The purpose of this study was Comparison of religious orientation, defensive styles, and basic psychological needs between orphaned adolescents and adolescents under the care of their families. For this purpose, a causal-comparative design was used; the Alport Religious Orientation Questionnaire, the Andrews Defense Styles Questionnaire, and the Deci and Ryan Basic Psychological Needs Questionnaire were used. The sample size of this study was 60 people selected by purposeful sampling method in the orphanage group. In the non-orphanage group, at first, second educational district of Hamadan city was selected among the schools by cluster sampling. Both groups had 30 individuals who had the same age (18-12) and gender and both groups had no serious problems. Comparison of groups was performed using independent t-test. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in the mature defensive style, psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. However, there was no significant difference in term of religious orientation and neurotic, and immature defense styles. The results indicate that the orphaned living conditions influenced the mature defensive style, psychological needs of autonomy, competence and given the role of these variables and their impact on the individual that can cause problems, these issues should be considered in educational planning.
