Background & objective: The aim of this study was to investigating of effectiveness of mindfulness therapy for children on improving psychological well-being and reducing impulsivity of children with oppositional defiant disorder.
Methods: The method of this research was experimental with a pre-test-post-test research design and a control group with a 2-month follow-up. In this research, the statistical population of the present study was all students in Ardabil city during the academic year of 2022-2023. First, 30 people scored 12 and above in oppositional defiant disorder and then among the 30 people, were selected by randomly selected into two experimental and control groups were replaced (15 experimental people and 15 control people). In this study, for people experimental group was implemented in mindfulness therapy for children, but the control group received no training and remained in the waiting list. The instruments used in this study include oppositional defiant disorder rating scale (ODDRS) of Hommersen and et al (2006), psychological well-being scale for children (PWB-c) of Opree and et al (2018) and impulsivity scale for children (ISC) and Hirschfield and et al (1965). Data analysis was performed using SPSS-24 software in two sections: descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential (Variance analysis with repeated measurements and Bonferroni post hoc test).
Results: Results indicated that mindfulness therapy for children, significantly improvement on improving psychological well-being and reducing impulsivity of children with oppositional defiant disorder (P<0.05).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that that mindfulness therapy for children can be used as an effective intervention in order to improving psychological well-being and reducing impulsivity of children with oppositional defiant disorder.
