Abstract:
This research aimed at determining the effect of teaching philosophy for children on anger and assertive behavior in primary school students. The design used was Quasi-experimental with a pretest, a posttest and a control group. The population included the third-grade primary students studying at Sama School in Abhar in the academic year 1402 – 1403. They were selected using cluster sampling in a control and an experiment group each including 15 students. Before conducting the experiment, assertive behavior was measured using Cutler & Guria assertiveness scale and anger was measured using Nelson anger questionnaire in both control and experiment groups. Then the experiment group was taught eight two-hour sessions of philosophy for children while the control group did not receive the education. Then, the post-test was conducted for both groups and the data was analyzed using a covariance test. The results showed that teaching philosophy for children significantly increased assertive behavior and reduced anger in the experiment group. In other words, the philosophy for children program enhanced personal and interpersonal relationships among children.
